n 2018, there were 466 million people that were living with hearing loss. That number will jump to 610 million by 2030 and again to 900 million by 2050. Over five million of those will be Canadians.
Unfortunately, according to the Hearing Foundation in Canada, only one in six people with hearing loss use a hearing aid to help them. Eighty percent of those living with hearing loss have reported they have troubles understanding others because they do not rely on a hearing aid solution to help them. The concerns are that these problems with hearing and communication can lead to other health problems or mental health issues.

While just 10 percent of patients who have a loss of hearing use surgery to help them, 90 percent of hearing loss can be improved with the use of a hearing aid. The good news is that advancements in technology has also lead to a better, smaller, and more powerful hearing aid. There is also the expectation that the device will be further improved as information technology improves.

Thanks to the advancement of hearing aid technology and appearance, wearing one no longer needs to be cumbersome. Yet, just one in six people who have hearing loss have reported using a hearing aid to help them with their condition. This can lead to problems understanding others, troubles in communicating with others and additional forms of health issues or mental health concerns.

However, it doesn’t need to be this way as 90 percent of patients who have hearing loss can experience improvement through the use of a digital hearing aid. Thanks to changes in technology, hearing aids have become smaller and even more powerful. Many in the industry have also anticipated further advances in hearing aid devices in the years to come.
